Paddock maintenance is often overlooked and simply adding more material is not the answer. Paddocks with excessive cedar hogfuel will have negative impacts to the environment.
A few simple things to remember are:
Remove old, decaying material rather than just covering it.
Remember that you are only allowed up to 18 inches of wood waste in paddocks.
Water from these paddock should not drain into any ditch, creek, stream or pond.
If possible use materials other than cedar hogfuel such as sand.
Try to locate your paddock about 30 meters away from creeks, rivers, ditches and your well.
