Paddock Maintenance

Paddock maintenance is often overlooked and simply adding more material is not the answer. Paddocks with excessive cedar hogfuel will have negative impacts to the environment.

A few simple things to remember are:

  • Remove old, decaying material rather than just covering it.
  • Remember that you are only allowed up to 18 inches of wood waste in paddocks.
  • Water from these paddock should not drain into any ditch, creek, stream or pond.
  • If possible use materials other than cedar hogfuel such as sand.
  • Try to locate your paddock about 30 meters away from creeks, rivers, ditches and your well.
