Project B-WET

Introducing the Bertrand Watershed Education Team!
This project is focused on contacting stream side landowners in the Aldergrove community to raise awareness of positive watershed stewardship practices.

Bertrand Creek is an ecologically sensitive habitat that is under threat from urban and agricultural influences. The creek is home to a variety of birds, mammals, amphibians, and fish including Coho Salmon, Cut Throat Trout and Steelhead. In addition the creek is home to the Nooksack Dace and Salish Sucker, both listed as species at risk and unique to only 3 watersheds in British Columbia. Please refer to our video link to learn more about the B-WET project.

As of December 2011, the B-WET team has contacted more than 100 streamside residents on agricultural land. From these contacts we are willing to provide 5 restoration projects to residents willing to restore their riparian area of Bertrand Creek. We will also be holding presentations for community groups to promote long term environmental stewardship; as well as walking tours, free Stream Keepers courses, invasive plant removal, stream side tree planting, storm drain marking and other applicable workshops.

Refer to the LEPS’ upcoming events page for these upcoming activities.
